Our Administration

A Letter from the Interim principal

Greetings, Ravenswood!

It is with great excitement that I introduce myself as the newly selected interim principal of Ravenswood Elementary School. There has been much anticipation around the new principal selection, and I can assure you that I am committed to wholeheartedly serving the Ravenswood students, staff, and families as we navigate this time of transition. Change is hard, but change is also necessary to grow. I’m excited about the path ahead.

I have heard many wonderful stories about Ravenswood–the diversity and wit of the students, the amazing teacher leadership, and the robust parent involvement. I can’t wait to meet each of you. I am eager to bring my passion and skills as an educational leader to Ravenswood, and to partner with you to ensure the success of our children.

I have been dedicated to the field of education for more than sixteen years. My most recent administrative experience has been shaped by seven years of successful leadership as the assistant principal at Belding Elementary School. I was also a school principal for three years in Tulsa, Oklahoma. I value relationships, academic excellence for all, the arts, and social and emotional learning and well-being. JOY is also very important to me.

I am in the process of creating an entry plan for my first 30, 60, and 90 days at Ravenswood. The plan will include gathering information and building relationships with various stakeholders.

Please feel free to contact me at psingleton@cps.edu with questions, comments, or concerns. E-mail is the best mode of communication for me during the summer. Let's set up a time to talk by phone or meet in person. Your feedback is valuable.

Thank you for the opportunity to serve in this role. I am thrilled to be at Ravenswood. I commit to partnering with you. Enjoy your summer!

Sincerely,

Patrina Singleton, Ravenswood Interim Principal

Our Team

Interim Principal Dr. Patrina Singleton

Dr. Patrina Singleton believes that children are a blessing and her role is to be their champion. She enjoys building relationships with students and finding out how to meet their individual needs.

A National Board Certified Teacher with more than 16 years of teaching and administrative experience, she most recently served as the assistant principal at Belding Elementary School. Belding is a thriving neighborhood school located in the Old Irving Park neighborhood, and has been recognized as an exemplary supportive school with a high level of social and emotional support for students, staff, and families. Dr. Singleton is an advocate and activist in this work.

She earned her doctoral degree and master's degree in educational administration, curriculum and supervision from the University of Oklahoma, and holds a BS in elementary education from Oral Roberts University.

Dr. Singleton is happily married for sixteen years, and has a beautiful daughter (age ten) and son (age five). When she has free time, she enjoys spending time with her family and friends, taking long walks (Fitbit goal: 20,000 steps!), and learning about health, wellness and other educational topics. She looks forward to serving you this school year!

Daniel Postlethwait, Interim Assistant Principal

I am proud and grateful to have been offered the opportunity to be the Assistant Principal at Ravenswood Elementary. I am looking forward to working closely with Principal Singleton as she leads the school forward during this time of change.

My role this school year will be to build relationships with all the Ravenswood stakeholders and to help support the work around academics, SEL, and the Arts. One only need look at the amazing school grounds to see that the parents and community have been champions of the school. The amazing playground, the garden plots that are flourishing and the welcoming benches and landscape make Ravenswood the kind of school that any child would be excited to attend.

It is my philosophy that at the center of student achievement are the efforts of parents, teachers, and students. My intention is to make sure that I can foster each of these as I support the mission and vision of Dr. Singleton. I have had an opportunity to meet a few teachers and community members who astounded me with their passion and dedication to the work being done here and I am eager to get to know each and every one of you.

To this new role, I bring my 20 years of experience in education as both a teacher and an administrator. Nearly ten years of that time was spent living and teaching in Spain and South Korea. I am highly invested in my role as a board member of The Chicago Poetry Center and its work to get poetry to all students. Over that past few years I have had the opportunity to grow as the ELPT, the Dual Language Coordinator, and the Case Manager at Darwin Elementary. In addition, I am eager to share my experiences in mentoring teachers and engaging parents.

My end in mind is to work with the students, staff, and parents and to take part in cultivating even more growth at Ravenswood Elementary like the flourishing gardens that surround the school today. Please take the next few weeks to recharge so that we can hit the ground running with lots of positive energy.

I personally am recharged after visiting Spain and Portugal this summer and spending much of my time playing volleyball, tending to my growing family of porch plants and reading some good books.

I encourage you to reach out if you have any questions via email at dlpostlethwa@cps.edu. I look forward to getting this year off to a great start!

Por favor, si ustedes tienen preguntas ponerse en contacto a través de mi correo electrónico dlpostlethwa@cps.edu. Tengo ganas de conocer y trabajar con todos para asegurar que comenzamos este año en la mejor manera posible.
