English Learners

Students who speak another language or live in a home with a speaker of another language may be eligible to be part of our English Learner Program. These students will be screened to determine the type of language support the student may need. The screening includes an age-appropriate test of the student’s English Language Proficiency level in listening, speaking, reading and writing.

If, based on the test score, the student is considered an English Learner (EL), the student will then be placed into a Transitional Bilingual Education Program (TBE) or a Transitional Program of Instruction (TPI). Students placed in the TBE program will recieve native language instruction as well as English as a Second Language (ESL) support. Students in the TPI program will receive (ESL) support. English Learners (ELs) in both programs will receive instruction that includes supports and modifications that are appropriate for the ELs level of English Language Proficiency.

To request a report card in a language other than English (we support 150+ languages) please send a note to your classroom teacher.
