Ravenswood Rambler - April 22, 2019
Principal Selection Update:
Welcome back! During spring break, the principal selection processes have not rested! We are collecting necessary information from our network chief and the greater LSC relations office on best practices to move forward. Next up, the LSC will vote on how we will structure our search and a timeline. We are also continuing our annual responsibility of principal evaluation and budget allocation.
Soon, you will receive a family survey link to voice your opinions and insights on our school's next principal, and you will have other opportunities to be involved as well. Each of us matters as a part of the school community, so please take the quick survey and be sure your fellow parents do, too.
Rest assured, we have a strong LSC, staff and other invested people to guide this process over the next few months. If you have questions or concerns, you're always welcome to contact me directly at firstname.lastname@example.org.

Dear Ravenswood Team
Parent Support Workshop on Managing Child Anxiety and Stress
When: April 23rd from 9am-10:30am
Where: 4th Floor Learning Lab
Augustyn Family Services is a counseling practice located in the Ravenswood neighborhood that provides services to children, teens, adults, couples and families in our community. In recent years, we have noticed an increase in school age children who are struggling with stress and anxiety. These issues can show up in many different ways and this event will help parents identify when their child is struggling with the amount of pressure that they are feeling. We will talk about effective strategies that can be used at home when your child is stressed and/or anxious. Parents will learn ways to support their anxious child and help their child have increased distress tolerance skills. This is an issue that is occurring throughout the country and also one that is typically completely manageable with some supportive interventions. Please join us to learn more about stress and anxiety in school aged children and how to help children who struggle with these difficult feelings.
Dia de Los Ninos Day of the Child Celebration
On April 30th, we will have a celebration for the "Dia de los Niños" In preparation for the celebration, we would like to ask for donations of any solid bright colored fabrics or old t-shirts as well as sharpies. The donations will help create a student made art display at school.
Wellness Committee Meeting and Allergy Awareness Week
When: April 30th at 9am
The Wellness Committee at Ravenswood is comprised of both staff and parents who are working to develop and communicate policies and practices that result in an environment that supports the overall health and wellness for the entire school. We would love to hear from you about your thoughts, concerns and ideas as it relates to the health and wellness of our students. You can do so by attending a meeting, emailing Ms. Karrel (email@example.com) or by completing this quick survey.
In May we will launch an Allergy Awareness Week. During this week, some primary students will receive nutrition lessons from the nurse, and we'll host activities on the playground after school for parents and students. As a reminder, Ravenswood strives to be a nut free school. This helps to protect students from being exposed to life threatening allergens. Please remember that the nut policy applies to all food being brought into the school as well as food consumed on the playground.
