Shelter in Place Drill

There will be a Shelter in Place Drill on Wednesday, October 16, 2019.

SHELTER-IN-PLACE Purpose: Provides a refuge for students, staff and the public inside the school building during an emergency such as severe weather, a hazardous material release outdoors or threat of violence in the neighborhood. Interior safe locations are located in areas of the building that maximize the safety of occupants. Shelter-in-place is used when evacuation would place people at risk. Interior safe locations may change depending on the emergency.

This is essentially a tornado drill. This drill involves being on the lowest level of the building and away from windows. In the event of a hazardous materials release, we would need to evacuate the building. Our safe location evacuation site is Courtenay Elementary School (4420 N Beacon St, Chicago, IL 60640) and families would be notified by e-newsletter and social media. Phone calls would be made once in a stable location.

Students will be asked to stop, cover, and hold. This action is taken to protect students and staff from flying or falling debris resulting from explosions, structural failures, and severe weather such as tornadoes, or earthquakes.

Walk for Ravenswood

Due to rain, the Walkathon has been rescheduled. It will now take place on Wednesday, October 16th.

Start Collecting Walk for Ravenswood Pledges Now!

On Wednesday, October 16th, all Ravenswood students will walk to raise money for the benefit of Friends of Ravenswood School (FORS). Funds raised by PreK through 7th grade will be used to benefit Fine and Performing Arts at Ravenswood, and money raised by the 8th grade will go towards their trip to Washington DC.

This year, our goal is to raise $25,000. The Walk for Ravenswood is our 2nd biggest fundraiser of the school year. If each student raises $100, we would double our $25,000 goal! Last year, the Walk for Ravenswood raised $24,500 for Fine Arts at Ravenswood and $2564 for the 8th grade trip.

Collect Pledges Online and On Paper

Donations can be made with a student's name and grade or classroom online by clicking here. The online option allows families the opportunity to request Walk for Ravenswood donations from friends and family online anywhere in the country.

Backpack flyers with instructions and pledge forms will go home this week. Please send back your paper donation form with donations by Friday, October 11th to your child's classroom teacher.

Come Cheer on Your Child’s Classroom!

Back again this year: The 3 classes with the most spirit will win Target gift cards!

WALK TIMES PER GRADE:

8:45-9:45: 7th and 8th grade

9:45-10:45: 4th and Preschool

10:45-11:45am: 2nd and 3rd Grade

1:40-2:40pm: 5th and 6th grade

2:40-3:40pm: Kindergarten and 1st Grade

Volunteers are needed on the day of the Walkathon to tally class totals. Sign up here to help.

School Lockdown Drill

On Thursday, September 26, 2019 we will have a school-wide LOCKDOWN DRILL. School-wide LOCKDOWN is used when there is a threat of violence or serious incident that could jeopardize the safety of students/staff such as an armed intruder, shooting, hostage incident, gang fights, civil disturbance, etc. Teachers will discuss the drill with students and you can discuss at home. We take safety seriously. As a result, clearer volunteer/visitor procedures will be coming soon. We want you in the building, but we want everyone to check-in properly and to communicate why they are in the building. Again, more specifics to come. Please contact Dr. Singleton at psingleton@cps.edu, if you have questions.
