This info session is to respond to any parent concerns regarding the changes outlined below:
In September, we will begin a partially departmentalized program. This means Ms. Stallard will focus on teaching English Language Arts (Reading and Writing), Ms. Manocha will focus on teaching Math and Science/Social Studies and Ms. Gangichiodo will team teach with both teachers to provide support for Diverse Learners.
To help ease the transition to a fully departmentalized program in 5th grade where students transition between 4 different teachers for core subjects and across the building. In 4th grade, students will only transition between 2 teachers and just across the hallway.
Helps students learn to improve their executive functioning skills (set of processes that all have to do with managing oneself and one's resources in order to achieve a goal.
Students are exposed to different teaching styles of more than one teacher.
Students have a release of energy as they transition between classes
Teachers get to know all students in grade thus creating a strong 4th grade community.
More specialized instruction and attention in each content area
Teachers can become experts in their content area
What This Looks Like For Kids:
Students will have a homeroom teacher (either Ms. Manocha in 305 or Ms. Stallard in 304) with whom they will begin their day and end their day.
Students’ belongings will stay in their homeroom.
