4th Grade Parent Info Session

This info session is to respond to any parent concerns regarding the changes outlined below:

In September, we will begin a partially departmentalized program. This means Ms. Stallard will focus on teaching English Language Arts (Reading and Writing), Ms. Manocha will focus on teaching Math and Science/Social Studies and Ms. Gangichiodo will team teach with both teachers to provide support for Diverse Learners.

Rationale:

  • To help ease the transition to a fully departmentalized program in 5th grade where students transition between 4 different teachers for core subjects and across the building.  In 4th grade, students will only transition between 2 teachers and just across the hallway.

  • Helps students learn to improve their executive functioning skills (set of processes that all have to do with managing oneself and one's resources in order to achieve a goal.

  • Students are exposed to different teaching styles of more than one teacher.

  • Students have a release of energy as they transition between classes

  • Teachers get to know all students in grade thus creating a strong 4th grade community.

  • More specialized instruction and attention in each content area

  • Teachers can become experts in their content area

What This Looks Like For Kids:

  • Students will have a homeroom teacher (either Ms. Manocha in 305 or Ms. Stallard in 304) with whom they will begin their day and end their day.

  • Students’ belongings will stay in their homeroom.
